THE MUSEITUP ANNUAL WRITING CONTEST

Well, our winners are in.  But before we get to them I want to thank everyone who participated.

Many contests have editors/writers/ publishers as the judges. I had ten readers, not writers. I handed copies of the entries to each with story 1, story 2, story 3, and so  forth on each handout without revealing the writer's name. Why? Because all of them are avid readers and in case they have read or heard of any of them, I preferred not to have the names of the authors on the handout sheets. With each sheet, there was a ratings system attached where they had to rate each story on:

ORIGINALITY- if the story differed from others they've read

EASE OF READ -meaning easy to follow, kept a forward motion of movement of characters and storyline without having to backtrack to see what the writer was talking about

CREATIVITY- the use of the five senses in the story to bring it to life

CONCLUSION- if the ending engaged a fulfilling satisfaction in them

In the meantime, I read each story and rated them but instead of EASE OF READ, I rated it on TYPOS/GRAMMATICAL MISTAKES.

At the end, it was amazing to see that my top five stories matched the rating tally from the readers. What this showed me is that readers do indeed notice typos, grammatical mistakes, and plot holes.

This first contest was a pure delight reading the different storylines one prompt can offer.

        And now, drumroll...
